WEEK 6 BLOG (2/19 - 2/25)

It has been revealed that Wendy's has taken been going through the process of re-evaluating it's menu.  In particular, they are looking into changes that they can make to their hamburgers...

http://www.courierpress.com/news/2011/sep/19/wendys-finds-you-cant-reinvent-burger-you-can-rema/

Since they are doing this, then let the "burger wars" begin...do you think that Wendy's needs to make changes to their burgers / menu?  If so, what changes should they investigate?  Are there other restaurants that should be doing this on a more consistant basis?  Who ultimately has the best burger on the market today?  (PART I due by Thursday 9/22; PART II due by Sunday 9/25)

  1. I believe that it would be a good idea to change their menu every now and then. It can really help a business to change up what they serve since it will allow others to show interest and be willing to try out the new products. I believe they should focus on taste. Maybe put some new types of spices, sauces, etc into their items. I eat there a few times and, needless to say, I am not too satisfied with the quality of their food's taste. To be honest, I believe restaurants like Hardees should do this a little more. The best burger I would say would probably be Rally's. They have always been the one whose burger tasted good.

  2. I believe that it would be a good idea for wendy's to change their menu from time to time. this will help get people who maybe are tired of the same old burgers that they always have. wendy's has been getting the word out that they have great burger, what if they were to change to something else. if they were to specialize in a different "food war" that has fewer big name competators they might do better in the market. i think that mcdonald's should to this more often, they say they change their burgers and menus but they are really just the same thing. the best burger i would say would be wendy's baconator. i would get it more often but it is just too expensive.

  3. uhm, well Wendy's choice in changing their menu is probably complete biased off of what the corporate advisers feel like will bring in more money and while perhaps the Wendy's across Indiana are doing fairly well the Wendy's in other parts of the country may be struggling. They are probably just trying to reinvent themselves to draw a new crowd of hungry people who enjoy fast food with flashy new commercials about the new changes inside.

  4. Wendy's really does need to change its menu becasue nobody really likes it anymkore, its ourdated and needs to try new things. they also need to update their restaurants, the way they look on the inside becasue that is also outdate and looks bad. If they try new things then maybe more people want to test it and if they like they wiill most likely continue to go there

  5. I think this is a smart move and was needed by Wendey's. It would be a good ideo to change up their menu from time to time to get customers attracted to Wendey's and go there to take a look at the new menu. I believe that every fast food joint should do this just to attract people towards them to take a look at and try the new items. As for the best burger, honestly i do not eat fast food burgers, but if I were to choose one, I would have to choose "Double Steak Burger" at Steak n' Shake. (If you consider that fast food)

  6. Wendy's, just like any other restaurant, should change their menus every now and then. They should of course keep the favorites but add more that they think will attract more attention to their restaurant. Other restaurants are doing this on a regular basis. My personal favorite burger is the triple steak burger from Steak N' Shake.

  7. I believe Wendy's needs to make no changes to their hamburgers or other menu items. The only thing I believe they should investigate is getting healthier menu options. I believe other restaurants are doing this consistently each month. I feel like McDonald's changes their menu each week. To this day, I believe In-N-Out burger on the west coast has the best burger, plain and simple.

  8. Frankly I believe that wendys is doin just fine, and they dont need to change the menu at all. They have had the same concept for decades now, and it has worked for them for all of those years. When the question of fast food is brought up, wenfys is always on that list. now an addition to the menu here and there is never a bad thing. In fact this blog makes me want to eat a baconator right now!

  9. I think that it would be a good idea for Wendy's to make a change to their burgers. A change to the burger is gonna make people wanna come in and try it out. And if they end up liking it, they'll come back more often to eat it. When they changed their fries, everyone started goin crazy and wanting to try them. This could happen with a change to the burger. I also think that Dairy Queen should do this more often. They've had the same thing for a while now, and its starting to get plain and boring. I personally have to go with McDonald's double cheeseburger as the best burger on the market.

  10. In my opinion I don't think they need to change anything. Their burgers are already massive and would have to be on the level of a whopper or big mac. I don't think they need to hamge anything they are already just as good as mcdonalds or burger king when it comes to quality of their burger.

  11. Wyatt, I think a bigger question would be what could they change or do in order to get themselves to be more publicly desired. We all know that Mcdonalds and Burger King are both very popular and many people go to them over Wendy's. I think that the are changing it so that they can draw a bigger crowd.

  12. Matt Brown, I agree their changes are focused on helping them get new things on their menu and allow them to get the attention they are wanting to get. There is the offchance that they may be struggling in our current economy and are doing this in an attempt to recover from their problem.

  13. I say that any and all food chains need to take the time to actually make fresh burgers, fries, chicken, etc. I went out west 3 summers ago and stumbled across a food chain named"In-n-out burger." They made everything fresh and the entire restaurant was packed with people. If Mcdonalds, Wendy's, Burger Kind, and any other fast food chain made everything from scratch and stuck with the original way of making it, they would not only get praise for it, but they would also have many more people coming and buying food.

  14. kyle, i completely agree with you about Wendys' situation. I thought about changing the prices of items, but never about the healty choices on the menu. Fast-food buyers know that they are outting in thousands of calories in their body in one meal; therefore many of them refuse to go there now. If Wendy's would make healthier choices then i think that their business would increase. To ocntinue, i was reading jake byrds comment and just saying, that comment makes no sense at all. Its called fast-food, not sit down and wait for us to make your burger from scratch. They would not gain business, they would lose business like crazy. Haven't you ever waited in a long line at Wendy's before? Yea, now imagine if they made it from scratch, you would be there for an hour.

  15. Jake, i have already responded ot your comment but i am supposed to have two different posts, so in my opinion your comment is not very smart. I feel this way because fast food is supposed to be quick, easy, and the ability to quench ones hunger at a rapid pace most times. People will often go to Wendy's in order get quick, and pretty good tasting food. Wendy goers know that they are not getting 5 star quality; therefore for Wendys to take their sweet ole time to make everything from scratch would be outrageous! They would definitley lose profit due to too much of a wait for people in line.

  16. I don't think the need to completely reinvent their menu to make it healthier. I mean, I'm seventeen, and i have never used the factor of how healthy a fast-food place is as a deciding factor. I respect Wendy's for keeping the same burger from their founding until now. However, with our economy in the dispostion that it is, industries are really making bold moves to attract competitor's business. So, if Wendy's executives have consulted the customer and come to the conclusion that it's a worth while change then more power to them.

  17. Wyatt, I believe you are totally wrong. It is needed that Wendy's should change their menu. You can't just have the same thing for years because eventually, it will become boring and nobody will eat there anymore.

  18. Wyatt, I agree with what you're saying. However, The Wendy's chain hasn't expanded to the same magnitude as McDonald's, and I think thats the goal. Whether their burger is just as good as the pther chains, the recipe has gotten stale. They want to give customers a reason to have a reason to come in and try it.

  19. Dominic, I believe you are completley right. Dairy Queen really does need to change up their menu. They are starting to slump because many fast food joints are making milkshakes and ice cream now. Dairy Queen needs to add more to their menu and take off the items no one really orders.

  20. Jake, making everything fresh and from scrath would obviously bring in more clientelle. I don't think anybody would argue with that, but in order to do that it just wouldn't be able to sell and make as many burgers as fast as the do. They They aare not a five-star restaraunt they are a fast food joint, and that's why people go there.

  21. I agree with Tyler Morgan, I believe Wendy's is doing fine on the business side. If you start thinking, Wendy's is one of the biggest companies in that type of business. Yet, a change in menu is never a bad thing after many years.

  22. I do not agree with Byrd on this one. If fast-food chains made everything from scratch, it would no be "fast-food". It would be sit down dining. Wendy's needs to keep doing what they are doing because they are rolling in money right now. If someone else has a billion dollar idea, speak up!

  23. i agree with kyle because fast food isnt supposed to be home made food, its supposed to be unhealthy and good and quick.

  24. and i agree with alex because their menu is fine, they just need to make small changes not the whole menu

    ReplyDelete
  25. Tyler i agree with you, Wendy's doesnt need to change their menu. i fits not broken dont fix it, but like you said a few small changes never hurts. and i agree with you a second time, i want a baconator right now

  26. Jake i disagree with your comment about how all resturants need to make fresh burgers and fries. im not saying this is a completely bad idea, but the purpose of fast food is so that it is FAST. if mcdonalds went to all fresh foods, it would take to long for people to wait and they would lose more buisness than they will gain. try "5 Guys" by the way if you want fresh food.

  27. Kyle, I agree with you about fast food restaurants and how they should try to make things more healthy. If they would make things more healthy, it might start to attract a different crowd of people, and therefore become more popular

    ReplyDelete
  28. Matt, i also agree with you, because changing the menu would make things seem as if Wendy's is improving and adding a new dimension to their food. If they are going to change the menu, more people will want to come and try it out.

  29. The Burgers Themselves may not be the problem but the style of restaurant. The article stated that McDonald's has taken customers by changing its look but when I think of Wendy's a more old fashion feeling comes to mind. I personally think Wendy's burgers are great but I may like the new burger even more so we will have to wait and see how the change affects the company. I do believe however other companies need to and will change their menus. Deciding which company has the best burger is hard because they each have a variety of different burgers with different tastes but the one burger place that consistently has the biggest best tasting burgers that never disappoint is a chain not located in Indiana called What-A-Burger.

  30. Chris I have to disagree I enjoy Wendy's burgers besides the occasional bad burger I feel like Wendy's burgers are bigger and more flavorful. The problem is everyone has a different outlook on taste which might make Wendys lose customers when they change their burger.

  31. I completely agree with Alex, when deciding where to eat how healthy the food I get their isn't really a deciding factor I choose what sounds the best is cheapest and easiest to access. The fact that Wendys isn't always adding to their menu doesn't make them necessarily boring I personally think it makes them dependable and you can know the quality of what your going to get every time.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I dissagree with Chris, because wendys has maintained a good reputation over the ywars with quality and taste. changing the menu now will only hurt franchise. a small change will never hurt. completely changing the menu would be devastating news.

  33. I agree with wyatt. Reinventing the wheel is never a good idea. If profits are maybe struggling, then maybe they should just try some new marketing strategies. But completley changing menu is a very awful idea.

    ReplyDelete
  34. i agree with Tyler, wendy's is fine i think the only reason their changing things is to bring in more business

    ReplyDelete
  35. I pretty much agree with everyone.. their changes are positive and will be good for their business but the quality and everything, is just as good as the other fast food places.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Tyler I agree with you there is nothing wrong with the menu at Wendy's. If there was an actual problem like people weren't buying the product then there would be a reason to look into the menu. I also want a baconator right now.

  37. I agree with alex because most fast food places are not healthy at all but people will still go there and eat.
