Sorry to go sports again, but...
It was revealed by the Colts that Peyton Manning underwent another surgery on his neck and will now be out indefinitely. Some have speculated that it may take 2 - 3 months to recover, others are estimating that it may threaten his career. There are certainly those out there who think that this means the end of the Colts run of success...

There are others who think that things might not be quite as bad as it would appear...

So what do you think? Are you ready to "jump ship" and say that the Colts season is over before it begins? Are the Colts really that reliant on one player or can they overcome this injury? Is it realistic to think that the Colts can still be successful with Kerry Collins running the offense? Ultimately, do the Colts have a shot at making the playoffs? If he is able to recover half way through the season, should the Colts let Manning return or should they just hold him out all year and let him get healthy? (DUE BY SUNDAY 9/11)
I think the colts have a shot still. It's small but it's there. I believe the running strengths we posses could be the deciding factor. Kerry Collins isnt the Peyton manning we know but I think he could be an alright quarterback. We didn't get to the super bowl AND WIN because of manning alone. We got tgere because of a team effort. While I believe that mannings leadership is a morale booster I think we can survive without him. I think if he recovers in less than two months he should be allowed to play but any later hold him off til next season let him heal and get rested.
ReplyDeleteThe colts are not out of the picture just yet. Peyton Manning is just as good as any other quarterback out there in the NFL. Just because we lost one man does not mean we have lost the entire season. Its selfish of people to say that the season is over when we have not even seen what Kerry Collins has to offer to the team. We still have Jeff Saturday, Dallas Clark, Reggie Wayne, and every other player on that team that will make this season work. I do not think Peyton should come back this season because he is a big risk factor right now. If he got hit to hard he could have to have another surgery which could lead to the end of his position on the team.
ReplyDeleteI think it will be interesting to see who they will adapt to the loss of Peyton. Although he is a great player, I believe that they still will do good this year. I definitely do not believe that the Colts rely too much on Peyton since we have Satuday, Addai, Wayne, and Clark who are also really good players. I think it will take a little time before Collins gets used to the offense that the Colts have. After that I think they will end up where they originally were. I think that if Manning were able to come back, they should only play him as a backup till he has fully recovered from the surgeries.
ReplyDeletethe colts could still do well in the season. Just because manning is out doesn't mean the whole season is ruined. they might have to work harder and it will probably me tougher for them but they can still do it. they should let him heal and be completely better, so they dont risk getting him hurt again. the colts still have other great players and theres is still a chance for them to make it to the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteI have posted this after the coltsgame took place. In my opinion yh volts dont have a shot at getting into the playoffs. Peyton Manning is the heart and soul of this team, without him the colts are hopeless. If tje colts are lucky, they may go .500 this season. Playoffs do not seem to be in the future for the colts. If it were me, I wpuld sit peyton this year, so he can regain full health
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am typing this after the first game of the season is over, my opinion still might shock you! I strongly belive in two different factors for the colts: they still have hope for the playoffs with Collins and also the Colts need to establish a set and stone way to draft Andrew Luck from Stanford for next years season. I believe in drafting Luck becasue no one knows how Manning will be feeling after 2 months or even 2 seasons, and if Luck works with Manning for awhile, the Colts might have another future NFL MVP on their hands. Collins is aging and it worried me to think of having him for a back-up in 2 more seasons. Yes, I strongly believe that the Colts have a great chance to make the playoffs because Collins is currently holding many active QB records with immense experience and because he is side-by-side with the greatest QB of all time, Peyton Manning. Many like to argue that Manning is not the greatest of all time, bujt until you can think of a QB that can control a game like he can then you may have a valid argument. Anyways, yes the Colts can overcome the injury to Manning's neck, and Collind should not be belittled! All in all, the Colts have accepted the fact that they will not be playing with the leagues best QB as of right now, and even if Manning is ready to play for the playoffs, use him as the back-up to Collins. Let the man who took you there, finish it! And plus, Manning seems to struggle in the first few games of the season, so therefore; let him continue to practice but to see limited playing time so he can fully recover, unless Collins becomes injured.
ReplyDeleteI am typing this after the first game so my opinion has changed. before today i felt as thoughthe colts would be alright in their season. however, after today's poor performance my opinion of the colt's season has changed and im voting that the colts will continue to play this bad without their star QB. this is unfortunate considering that Indiana is hosting the superbowl, and without payton i do not have hope that we will be playing in it. to those who are still hopeful of the season i say good luck to you.
ReplyDeleteThroughout the past ten years, I have been a die-hard Colts fan and have never doubted any decision that has been made by Peyton Manning. I will not "jump ship" or quit supporting the Indianapolis Colts. As the players grow closer with Kerry Collins, more of them will gain respect for him and trust him more and more each play. As this respect grows, I expect to see improvement each and every time. I believe the Colts have a great shot at making the playoffs in the post season as they grow closer as a team. I believe the Colts should sideline Peyton Manning for the regular season so that he has enough rest for years to come.
ReplyDeleteThough Peyton may be a large part of the Colts success he is not the sole reason for the success of the team. I believe with the Colts new defensive players, a still solid offense and strong leadership from Kerry Collins that yes the Colts can make it to the playoffs and be successful. If however Peyton recovers and has the ability to come back and play during the playoffs I think Collins should remain the QB, if he can get the team that far.
ReplyDeleteI think that the Colts season is basically done before it starts. Kerry Collins joined the team with 16 days to go untill the season started. That is not enought ime for the offense to grow together and change things up a bit. Collin did not have enough time to go through the play book, memorize it, and run the offense the way he is comfortable. I think if Manning is able to return halfway through the season, it should only be if they have a shot of making the playoffs. If they are most likely not going to make the playoffs, then he should sit out the rest of the season.
ReplyDeleteI would first like to say that, I am not exactly one of the 'all knowing' minds of the sports world. I am also not one to judge on Kerry Collins on his playing ability or his capability to improve but it is probably hard for 'die hard' Colts fans to wrap their minds around anyone but Peyton Manning 'leading' the team to all its victories. I also think, by what I heard about the game played yesterday that potentially the Colts do need Manning to succeed but Collins should get a fighting chance, not just based off of last nights performance. i would also strongly say that the Colts would most-likely not have chosen Collins if they did not feel he would be able to bring the team to many victories, and Peyton would not sit by and let his position be filled by someone completely incapable, to do so. I also do not think Peyton Manning would let his team 'suffer' if he is capable of playing in the near future, he seems to have an extremely love for the game and I doubt anyone is going to be able to tell him weather or not hes going to play, if he feels he can.
ReplyDeleteI think with the Colts' defense that they still have a shot if Kerri Collins get back into shape and learns his players and what they are physically able to do. If Peyton does return in the middle of the season I believe they should hold him off at least until the play offs so they don't risk re-injuring him ending his career.
